EPCOR Water Services is hiring a full-time, permanent Senior Advisor, Public Engagement, based at the Rossdale Water Treatment Plant (RECAL Building) in Edmonton, AB.

 

In this strategic role, you’ll lead the development and execution of public engagement plans that foster trust, ensure transparent communication, and build strong relationships with stakeholders and communities. You’ll provide expert guidance on engagement strategies that meet regulatory requirements, support project timelines, and align with EPCOR’s values.

 

Working closely with internal teams and external partners, you’ll use a range of communication tools—from traditional media to digital platforms—to deliver effective engagement. This role also supports issue response and continuous improvement to enhance customer experience.

What you’d be responsible for

 

Key Accountabilities

 

Reporting to the Manager, Public Engagement, the Senior Advisor is responsible for leading public engagement efforts across Water Services projects. Core responsibilities include:

 

  • Plan and Execute public engagement strategies using a variety of tactics, including notifications, consultations, open houses, signage, and digital communications.
  • Ensure Compliance with regulatory requirements and alignment with project timelines to meet annual construction goals.
  • Conduct Research and analyze data to inform engagement plans and summarize insights for internal use.
  • Engage Stakeholders by identifying key groups, assessing concerns, and building trust through proactive communication and relationship-building.
  • Create Content that translates technical information into plain language across channels such as briefing notes, websites, and social media.
  • Collaborate Internally with teams, project managers, contractors, and vendors to support engagement efforts.
  • Track Engagements using CRM tools (e.g., Borealis) to maintain accurate records of projects and stakeholder interactions.
  • Manage Issues by responding to stakeholder concerns, preparing media responses, and supporting EPCOR’s reputation.
  • Report Outcomes to support decision-making and regulatory submissions, including presentations and hearings.
  • Improve Processes by recommending enhancements to engagement strategies and customer experience.
  • Support Media Relations through rotating on-call coverage and acting as spokesperson when needed.

 

What’s required to be successful

 

Qualifications & Experience

 

  • Education:
    A degree in Business, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Social Sciences, or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution is required. A liberal arts or diploma-level education combined with relevant experience will also be considered.

 

  • Experience:
    4–6 years of progressive experience in public engagement, stakeholder consultation, or communications, with a proven track record of developing and executing strategic engagement plans.

 

  • Skills & Expertise:
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly across diverse audiences.
    • Exceptional research, writing, and editing abilities for both print and digital platforms.
    • Demonstrated expertise in issues management and conflict resolution.
    • Experience managing external vendors (e.g., research, design, printing, distribution).
    • Solid project management and planning capabilities, especially in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
    • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills across all organizational levels.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including SharePoint), project management tools, CRM systems (e.g., Borealis), and social media platforms.
    • IAP2 certification, knowledge of the utility industry, and familiarity with customer experience trends are considered assets.

Jurisdiction: CSU52 

Class: P2 

Hours of work: 40 hours per week – typically Monday to Friday

Wage: starting at $50.95 per hour 

  • Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and based on a combination of factors as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
  • If a candidate is hired at the developmental level starting wage will be determined based on experience at the time of selection.
